The Camera Obscura

The Camera Obscura

Located on the main campus of Salt Lake Community College in Utah are three cameras Obscura. The largest of the three, fabricated by Maloya, is situated on the west side of the campus. It is formidable in size and scope yet elegant in design evoking both curiosity and visual excitement. Fabricated from a combination of both CorTen and galvanized steel its complex and unique design draws visitors from far and near.

Maloya was awarded this project based on their ability and experience in the fabrication of extremely complex and large format design structures. The first step was to use the Design/Build process using RHINO CAD files and converting them to SolidWorks software.  Next, shop drawings were created from 3D Modeling.  Due to the very large size of the project Maloya employed LEAN manufacturing methods to move the project efficiently and safely through the many work centers.
